The Trotsky - Movie Review

So I checked out The Trotsky this week. I was really looking forward to seeing this movie, mostly because I have a mad crush on Jay Baruchel but nevertheless it did not disappoint. The movie follows Leon Bronstein (Baruchel) a Montreal highschool student who believe he is the reincarnation of the Russian revolutionary Leon Trotsky. Leon makes it his goal throughout the movie to have the events in his life duplicate those of Trotsky's including marrying an older woman named Alexandra. After his father decides to send him to public school he begins a campaign to introduce a union for students...and essentially all hell breaks loose.

This movie was so unappologitically Canadian. I found it really romanticised Montreal and had many cultural references that I think a lot of people will find amuzing like when Leon goes on e-talk for an interview. I just found this movie presented such a refreshing view of Canada.

The soundtrack for this movie is also amazing. Montreal indie-rock band Malajube did the score for the soundtrack. As well the movie features Toronto rapper K'naan and many other Canadian bands.

Seriously awesome...can't wait to own it on dvd.
